Time dimensions in the dataset

A time dimension is a dimension field that contains date information. In the sample dataset, all date values are stored in the Date column. In Tableau, you can create these fields from a single Date column, then use them as time dimensions to analyze your data:

  • YEAR(Date)

  • QUARTER(Date)

  • MONTH(Date)

  • DAY(Date)
