Adding and updating Arria for Tableau
This topic describes how to add the Arria for Tableau extension to a workbook for the first time and how to update to the latest version.
Add Arria for Tableau
If you haven't already done so, sign up for an Arria account with an Arria for BI license or an Arria NLG Studio license.
In the Tableau workbook, go to the dashboard sheet.
In the Objects section, on the left of the workspace, click Floating so the objects you'll add next are added as floating objects.
From the Objects section, drag the Extension object to the dashboard.
In the Add an Extension dialog, choose one of the following options:
Arria-Hosted Public Cloud deployments only:
To add Arria for Tableau from the Tableau Exchange, at the top left, search for "Arria" and select Intelligent Narratives for BI. Click Add to Dashboard.
Arria-Hosted Public Cloud, Arria-Hosted Private Cloud, and Customer-Hosted deployments:
To add Arria for Tableau from a previously downloaded TREX file, click Access Local Extensions and navigate to the file. Click Open to add the extension.

The directions for downloading Arria for Tableau depend on your chosen deployment option:
Arria-Hosted Public Cloud deployments
On the Arria website, sign in to your Arria account and download the Arria for Tableau extension (.trex file).
Arria-Hosted Private Cloud and Customer-Hosted deployments
Users of the Arria-Hosted Private Cloud (a.k.a. Dedicated Cloud) and Customer-Hosted (a.k.a. On-Premises) deployment options can no longer use the publicly available Arria for Tableau extension.
Instead, a unique instance of the visual configured to call your exclusive Arria for Tableau services, must be installed.
Contact Arria or your systems administrator for details.
If prompted, click OK to allow the Arria for Tableau extension to run in the dashboard.
You see the Welcome page.
Move and resize the extension as desired.
Enter your Arria account details and click Log in to my Arria account.
You are presented with the Get started with... page:
NLG Apps, Arria Answers, and Custom Narratives remain grayed out until you have configured the data you wish to narrate on the Configure your data page.
Update Arria for Tableau
When we release a new version of Arria for Tableau, the extension is automatically updated the next time you open your workbook — regardless of whether you added the extension from the Tableau exchange or using a downloaded TREX file.
