Learn Arria for Power BI basics
This topic describes how to perform some basic tasks using the add-in's user interface.
Using the Arria Context menu
The Arria for Power BI context menu displays the features and actions available to you in the current context. E.g.:
Open the NLG Apps feature  | Copy a generated narrative  | Clear an Arria Answers conversation  | Close the Arria Answers feature  |
Note
Certain features may not be available to you, depending on the type of Arria account and subscription you have.
Enabling Focus mode
For a larger workspace and improved readability of the narrative generated, click the Focus mode icon in the top-right corner of the add-in. To minimize the add-in, click Back to report.

Scrolling in the add-in
Note the scroll bar at the right side of the wizard. Use this to make sure you're seeing all the dimensions and measures for your selected data, and all the fields that can be configured.

Prioritizing data fields in NLG Apps
Use the grab bars at the top-left of each dimension and measure in Step 1 to move them up or down in the wizard. The higher the position in the wizard, the higher the priority for description in the generated narrative.

Formatting narratives
The generated narrative is displayed with basic formatting retained from the Studio project. You can change the font size, font color and background color of your narratives.
With the add-in selected in the dashboard, click the Format icon in the Visualizations pane.
Scroll down to the Formatting Options section, or search for Formatting, then select your font size, font color (Foreground color) and background colour.
Note
The selected font size and font color (Foreground color) is applied to the entire narrative text.
Click Revert to default to revert to the original formatting.
Copying and pasting narratives
To copy a narrative, go to the Arria Context menu and click Copy Narrative.

The narrative can then be pasted into other applications, such as PowerPoint, Word or Outlook.
Note
Narratives can only be pasted into applications that support css styling, such as the Microsoft Office suite.
To paste as plain text into applications that do not support css styling, first paste into Word, then copy and paste into the application.
Copying and pasting Arria Answers conversations
To copy a single answer, click the Copy icon on the right-hand side of that answer.

To copy an entire conversation, go to the Arria Context menu and click Copy Conversation.

You can then paste the single answer or conversation into other applications, such as PowerPoint, Word, or email.
Clearing Arria Answers conversations
To clear a conversation, go to the Arria Context menu and click Clear Conversation.

Switching between narratives and Arria Answers
When you have generated your narrative, you can gain further insights by querying the underlying data using Arria Answers.
To switch to Arria Answers, go to the Arria Context menu and click Open Arria Answers. You can then query your data. When you wish to return to your narrative, click Close Arria Answers.

Important
Arria Answers currently supports only the Sum aggregation type and the None and Currency entity types. When switching from an NLG Apps narrative to Arria Answers, make sure the measures chosen to generate the narrative meet these requirements. If they don't, Arria Answers will return incorrect responses.
